in honor of this weekend...

My favorite Zac Brown Band song, Free, mixed with a cover of my favorite song of all time (Into the Mystic - Van Morrison)..an easy choice.

current obsessions:
  • Maxi dresses
  • DJ'ing in the afternoon with my coworkers on turntable
  • The pale girls savior - TanTowels.  Hands down, the best (and easiest to apply!) self tanner out there.  Trust me, I've tried them all.  Realistic color, dries almost instantly and it lasts.
  •  Malbec red wine.  Normally I'm a white-only drinker, but after discovering this red variety (thanks, Brandon!), I'm hooked.  Although I do drink it over ice (sacrilege, I know, but this is coming from the girl who drinks iced coffee 365 days a year) so I'm not really a complete convert yet.

Time to dust off the cowboy boots & get ready for a country fried weekend! xx, C.

random things

1.  Lake House 2011 was a success.  Rain all day Saturday didn't stop any fun from happening.  Can't wait for next year.

2.  I am so excited to get all redneck (I can say that, I was born below the Mason-Dixon Line) this Saturday at the Billy Currington/Zac Brown Band/Kenny Chesney concert at Giants Stadium (yeah, I'm still calling it that).  I'm looking forward to drinking outdoors, a summer sunset, laughing with friends and live country music..these are the things I live for.

3.  Haley from American Idol got a record deal.  Now, when the show was on I was very hot and cold with how i felt about her.  I think she has a great voice but sometimes her personality really got on my nerves.  However, all I have to do is listen to her cover of Bennie & the Jets and I could care less how she acts - the girl can sing.  If you haven't heard this, its a must listen:

4.  I seriously cannot wait for football season to begin.  We got tickets to Giants/Dolphins (this only happens every EIGHT years in NY..big deal) in October..my first ever NFL game!  I live for the Giants.  This has been a crazy, crazy off season and people are talking down on the team/acting worried but I have faith.  Nothing would make me happier than beating the Eagles at least once.  All this "Dream Team" talk?? When was the last time you guys won a Super Bowl? Oh, that's right..NEVER.  I'll stop ranting here or else this will go on forever.

5.  I'm really behind on the DVR and it's kind of stressing me out.  Like verging on 3 weeks behind of some shows.  In other news, I think we've watched about 65 episodes of Pawn Stars in the last few weeks..its getting unhealthy.  I now think I know everything about guns made before 1880 and restoring antique Coke machines.

6.  The countdown to my Verizon upgrade: 16 DAYS.  Goodbye Blackberry, hello iPhone.  I've been waiting for this day ever since Verizon announced they would be carrying the iPhone.  I feel kind of bad because Blackberries have been good to me for the past 3 or so years, but the small screen really gets on my nerves and it doesn't have cool apps.  I will cherish my last few weeks of BBM until then.

but dad, it's shark week!

we both had friday off this week and headed home to garden city to go to my lifelong neighbor/my mom's godson brian's wedding.  they got married at a beautiful church in bellmore and had the reception at the inn at new hyde park which was recently renovated and absolutely gorgeous.  from the beginning of the cocktail hour at 6:30 until we dragged ourselves out of there around 12:45 we had the greatest time.  all of my neighbors, a lot of my family and tons of friends were there.  we ate, drank and danced all night celebrating brian & allison.

on saturday we walked into town with my mom and her puppy to grab some lunch, sit outside and enjoy the day (not to mention get a little exercise!).  by saturday the humidity had gone down considerably and it was so nice out.  then we headed back to the apartment to finally get some much needed rest.

we both have this coming friday off and we'll be heading to the 2nd annual lake house weekend with our high school friends.  last year was a blast so we're not expecting anything less this year!  i'll be sure to take as many pictures as possible.  i'm usually really bad with bringing my camera everywhere but rarely taking pictures so that's something i'm trying to change.

shark week has begun so i must go enjoy!

until next time..xx, C

weekend in review

We had the best time at the Paul McCartney concert Saturday night at Yankee Stadium..especially when Billy Joel came out and played 'I Saw Her Standing There' with Paul.  I took a shaky video of it and my camera died part of the way through but here it is:

It was so cool to see a part of history at the concert.  Even though its been generations since The Beatles have all been together and touring I feel like we got to see them live.

The Addams Family on Friday night was great.  Brooke Shields ended up being perfect for the role of Morticia & my mom and I both loved the play.  Dinner was amazing too - way too much food for two people but somehow we managed to finish most of it!

Its been a typical lazy Sunday..we went food shopping and watched the women's World Cup game.  I got 'The Kids Are All Right' from Netflix so maybe we'll watch that tonight.  I've been meaning to watch this movie since before the Oscars but better late than never.

Time to get dinner cooking & get ready for the week ahead.

Until next time. xx, C.

i love you, new york.

rejoice urban dwellers..restaurant week in nyc has begun!

we took a trip to mesa grill wednesday night for margaritas, fish, chile rellenos & some fabulous strawberry shortcake.

last night we stayed in due to laundry overflow issues [thanks, babe!] and i cooked some sweet pea tuna pasta salad which was pretty delicious and made enough leftovers for many, many lunches!

tonight, mom's coming into the city.  she & i are going to grab some dinner at aj maxwell's steakhouse before catching brooke shields as morticia in the addams family on broadway.

the whirlwind weekend continues saturday night as brandon & i will be bronx-bound to see none other than sir paul mccartney live in concert at yankee stadium!  i've been looking forward to this for weeks ever since we got tickets.  hopefully we'll be able to get a few decent pictures from our nosebleed seats.  [thank goodness for the zoom function]

until next time. xx, C.
